Our Lodge is situated in Hoedspruit; a lively, booming town within the heart of the Limpopo province. The closest gate to the Kruger National Park is Orpen which is 50 minutes from Hoedspruit. Other nearby private game reserves include Manyeleti, Thornybush, Klaserie, Timbavati, Kapama, Balule, Olifants North and South, Tshukudu, Moditlo, Karongwe, Jejane, the Blue Canyon Game Conservancy (Khaya Ndlovu) and Pridelands. Being completely surrounded by game reserves makes Hoedspruit a gateway to them all. The numerous NGO’s, NPO’s, anti-poaching units, research projects etc that exist here, bear testimony to the term “eco-tourism” which would best describe the purpose of this bustling town.
Call of the Wild Lodge is also situated in the incredible surrounds of Hoedspruit Wildlife Estate. The farms bordering the estate on the northern boundary are open to the Kruger therefore the Kruger begins just beyond the electric fencing. As the gateway to Kruger, we offer affordable accommodation right on its doorstep, with the added advantage of being able to cycle, walk and even horse ride in the confines and safety of the estate. Being able to do these activities, enables an interaction with wildlife that few encounter.
It is a sanctuary for both residents and game such as giraffe, waterbuck, kudu, nyala, warthog, zebra, impala, duiker, steenbok, hyena, mongoose, bushbaby hyena and leopard if you’re lucky as they tend to only come out at night. Wild dog, porcupine, civet, genet, aardvark have all been seen at some time. Buffalo, lion, hyena and elephant are infrequently seen on the neighbouring farms.
There are 3 dams with hides for game viewing and a 25km cycle track. Enjoy a picnic or sundowner at the end of the day, at any of the dams, while watching the animals come and drink.
